Mission Statement

To serve the citizens of Alpena County in the most efficient and expeditious manner possible while displaying conduct which exemplifies the highest standards of performance-integrity, leadership, attitude and success. We are committed to protecting life and protecting property by preserving the peace, maintaining order, controlling crime, apprehending offenders and enforcing the law while respecting the right and dignities of all persons. To adhere to the correctional facility's responsibilities to it's inmate population and other major constituencies by treating all inmates and the public with dignity, courtesy, and professionalism. We will continue to strive to achieve our goals for the future of this mission statement and the betterment of the department.
Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for a security / Deputy’s position for our local Air Force base.  The following criteria must be met prior to picking up an application.
  1. Need not be a state certified or certifiable MCOLES individual through the State of Michigan on Law Enforcement standards.
  2. Be a citizen of the United States.
  3. Speak, read, write and understand English.
  4. Be drug free.
  5. Successfully pass a physical exam and pre-employment drug screening.
  6. Possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
  7. Be at least 21 years of age.
  8. Be able to operate a personal computer and basic operating system programs.
  9. Have no prior felony or misdemeanor offenses or have any current pending litigation.
  10. Have knowledge and experience in handing firearms.

February 13, 2015

On Tuesday morning February 10th, 2015, an Alpena County Sheriff's Deputy was called to a stolen vehicle complaint. Information was collected from the victim and a suspect was identified in the case. The vehicle was then entered as stolen and a BOL (Be on the lookout) was broadcasted.

In the evening of February 11th, 2015, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office was advised that the suspect and vehicle were located in Missouri. The 27 year old male from Alpena Township, was arrested and the vehicle was recovered. The suspect is currently lodged in Missouri awaiting extradition back to Michigan.

January 16, 2015

On Wednesday January 14th, 2015, Dustin Timm was arraigned in 88th District Court. Timm was arraigned for one count of breaking and entering with intent, a 10 year Felony.

At the time of this incident, Timm was out on bond for another incident that took place in November 2014. In that case Timm is charged with the following;

Home Invasion- 20 year Felony
Breaking and Entering- 10 year Felony
Possession of a short barrel shotgun- 5 year Felony
Felony firearm- 2 year Felony

Timm still remains lodged at the Alpena County Jail.


January 12, 2015

On Saturday January 10th, 2015 at 4:30am, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a burglary alarm at the BP gas station in Ossineke. Once on scene, deputies discovered that the business had been broken into and that items were taken from the business.

Evidence was collected from the scene and deputies were able to identify a suspect quickly in the investigation. Deputies were able to locate the suspect, a 19 year old Ossineke male, where he was arrested and lodged at the Alpena County Jail. Deputies conducted a search of his residence and were able to locate items stolen from the gas station. The suspect, at the time of this incident, was out of jail on bond for another incident that happened in November 2014.
